A cooperation with the City of Hanover
For three evenings, UTOPIEN26 opens up a space where art, political questions and shared experiences come together on Andreas-Hermes-Platz.
UTOPIEN26 sees itself as a movement between utopian and dystopian images, between the desire for change and the limits of what is feasible. The project brings existing conditions to light while keeping alternatives open to consideration. To this end, a public space is being created at Andreas-Hermes-Platz in Hannover where different realities converge: history, the present, and lived contradictions. UTOPIAS remains deliberately open and a work in progress. A finished design is not the goal, for any claim to perfection also carries with it the risk of exclusion and pressure to conform.
UTOPIEN26 is part of the Sommerlounge 2026, a joint project with the City of Hanover.
The UTOPIEN program will take place in June and July 2026:
On June 25, a panel discussion with Asphalt Magazine will explore the city, homelessness, and issues of access and exclusion, accompanied by a choir project with Chorwerk Hannover, an open communal meal, and an exhibition by Shahd Wheibi.
On July 2, the focus will be on memory and coexistence, featuring a panel discussion, an outdoor performance by Ahmad Mallah and Rebecca Lillich Krüger, and a vinyl DJ set in collaboration with Refuge Worldwide.
On July 9, the program merges with Sub:stance, a format blending conversation and music featuring Vasil and local collectives from Hannover.
